Beta Theta Pies
During one of the last weekends of April, Beta Theta Pi offers anyone the chance to throw a pie at their favorite Beta! All brothers help work this famous event. All the proceeds from this fundraiser go towards the Aurora Center. In the Spring of 2021, the Beta Pi chapter raised over $3000 from this event!
Light The Row
During the first week of December, Beta Theta Pi hosts Light the Row, a philanthropy fundraiser. Anyone who comes has to pay a small fee to get in, then gets to enjoy a host of activities ranging from decorating cookies, socializing, enjoying hot cider to watching a carefully choreographed light show. All proceeds go to the Aurora center and this past December Beta Theta Pi raised $3000.
Community Service
Over the course of the Summer and Fall Semester of 2022, members of the Beta Pi chapter of Beta Theta Pi were hard at work giving back to the community and living out our value of Mutual Assistance. Our members work to complete 10 hours of community service each semester with many gaining well over the required amount! Beta’s gave back to the community at over 60 different organizations locally around Minneapolis, as well as in their hometowns.
Some of these amazing organizations include:
Feed My Starving Children
Family Pathways
Hope Academy
Big Brothers Big Sisters: Pratt Community School
Camp Kesem
Ronald McDonald House
Southeast Seniors
Banaadir Academy
Welcome Week Leader
Local Churches and Research Labs on Campus
Second Harvest Heartland
As Betas, we are proud to serve others and are committed to making our community a better place!
Social
Formal
Each semester the Beta brothers travel off-campus to spend one or two nights at formal. They bring a date and are served a formal dinner on Saturday night. This gives members an opportunity to take a break and get away from school for the weekend.
Date Party
Each semester the Betas go on a date party. A date party is very similar to formal but it only lasts one night. Some past date parties have included ice skating, Holidazzle parade, Comedy Clubs, and a gift exchange.
Exchanges
Beta usually does 2 to 3 exchanges with other sororities each semester. This is when Beta and a sorority get together for an event. Past exchanges have included: Capture the Flag, Movie Night, and Board Games
Homecoming/Spring Jam
Each year the Greet Community takes part in both Homecoming and Spring Jam. The greek chapters are split into different pairings with about 3-5 chapters in each. The pairings then compete against one other in various events throughout the week. Some events include: Cheer Competition, Battle of the Bands, Lip Synch Competition, and Tug of War.
Brotherhood
Brotherhood Weekend
Each semester the Beta brothers travel to one of the members houses for the weekend. This is a sober weekend where brothers hang around playing board games, watching movies, playing football, and eating a lot of food. This allows the members another chance to get off campus and many parents love to host.
Brotherhood Activities
Throughout the year there are different events that brothers do together just for fun. Some examples include: Paintball, Spike ball, Skiing, Camping, Weight Lifting, and Intramural Sports. Along with physical activities, the brothers also spend a lot of time together studying in reserved classrooms. Brothers also often participate in weekly brotherhood dinners nearly every Friday night!
Other Events
Member Development Day
Once a semester the Minnesota Chapter of Beta Theta Pi hosts Member Education Day. All Brothers in the house participate in their choice out of six sessions presented by University Staff, Alumni, and Friends of Beta. The purpose of the day is to better prepare Brothers for success outside the house, and after graduation. Examples of speakers include: Sarah Oehler, Friend of Beta, University Staff, and Career Counselor at Carlson School of Management- Resume and Internship Preparation Ken Tamuara, Alumnus and Executive Recruiter at Target- Networking after graduation and the power of LinkedIn Ben Elliot, Alumnus and Senior Tax Analyst at Cargill- Finances after graduation
Parents Day
Every Spring semester Beta hosts a parents day where parents come to campus and spend time with their sons. This gives them a chance to meet some of their friends and see the house. There is always a formal dinner with speeches from some of their advisors. In recent years the dinner has been held at the Campus Club in Coffman Memorial Union.
Rush Events
In the fall semester, Beta holds many different rush events for students interested in getting to know Beta better. Check out our calendar, or contact our VP recruitment to find out what rush events Beta will be holding this fall. Past events have included, Paintball, Barbecues, Poker Nights, as well as one on one dinners!
Intramural Sports
Beta typically fields Intramural teams that compete in Volleyball, Soccer, Basketball, Dodgeball, and Broomball.
